Looking back on one of our League Cup triumphs here at Wembley Stadium, when Jonathan Woodgate became a Tottenham hero!
Jonathan Woodgate took less than a month to carve his name in Spurs folklore.
The cultured defender joined us from Middlesbrough on January 28, 2008…and he scored the winner against Chelsea in the League Cup Final at Wembley on February 24.
It wasn’t just the goal though, ‘Woody’ and Ledley King were imperious as a central defensive partnership that day, incredible when you consider this was the first time they’d played together.
We were the better team throughout only for Didier Drogba to give Chelsea the lead from a first-half free kick. Dimitar Berbatov’s cool-as-ice penalty levelled it in the second period and just four minutes into second half, Woody headed home what turned out to be the winner. It was our first trophy for nine years and we became the first club to win the League Cup at the new Wembley, following its opening the previous May.

OBITUARY – JOHNNIE HILLS
We were saddened to hear of the passing of John ‘Johnnie’ Hills, a defender who spent 11 years at the Club as an amateur and professional between 1950-61. He passed away at home in Brussels, Belgium, on Friday, 26 November, aged 87.
