MAXING IT OUT - Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro Max

The Redmi Note series put Xiaomi devices in everyone’s hands, thanks to its combination of good hardware at a competitive price. This year’s Redmi Note 9 series follows the same philosophy. The Redmi Note 9 Pro is a good device, but the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has some extra tricks up its sleeve. We dive deep to see if the max variant is worth the extra money?

There’s not much to differentiate between the Redmi Note 9 Pro and 9 Pro Max, at least in the design department. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max features the same Aura Balance design that brings a refined look and smooth finish at the front and back. The front features a large 6.67-inch FHD+ DotDisplay whereas the shiny back sports interesting colour choices - ranging from Interstellar Black, Aurora Blue and Glacier White. The good thing about the design is that the glass on the phone’s front, back and even the bulging camera module are protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The body is also coated with P2i solution to make it splash-proof. However, the back attracts some fingerprint smudges, compared to the front that has got an anti-oil and anti-fingerprint protective coating. The design also positions the fingerprint sensor to the side, doubling up as a power button. Just above that are the volume buttons; SIM and memory card slot on the left; 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port and a loudspeaker at the bottom; a secondary mic and IR blaster at the top.
