“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast,” declared Alice in Disney’s most recent incarnation of the classic tale. As I stroll through Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom munching on a Cheshire Cat Tail – a suitably wondrous pastry confection smattered with chocolate and drizzled in pink and purple icing – it occurs to me that Alice’s celluloid champion, Walt Disney, didn’t just imagine them. He actually made as many as six impossible things happen before breakfast.
With four theme parks – Epcot, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios – two water parks, 36 resort hotels, a shopping and entertainment precinct and some truly outstanding dining, Orlando’s Walt Disney World Resort is more than 100 square kilometres of extraordinary proof. Sadly, Walt didn’t live to see the opening of his namesake theme park in 1971, but his ability to turn the impossible into reality is in its every last detail.
But where to start? I’d suggest by allowing yourself at least a week to explore it all and staying at a Disney hotel so you’re right in the Disney bubble, with all the accompanying magic on your doorstep. All Disney hotel guests are allocated a MagicBand, a bracelet that is also a room key, credit card, entry ticket and FastPass+ all in one. As a bonus, Disney hotel guests’ FastPass+ choices can be booked up to 60 days in advance, while other park guests are only eligible to book up to 30 days in advance.
If you need more reasons to stay at one of Disney’s incredible hotels, how about Extra Magic Hours? These enable guests to enjoy park access before or after regular operating hours, so they can be first in line for all the best attractions.
