DISASTER STRIKES: Your wedding jewellery breaks on the day. You may have invested hundreds on your bridal jewels and while they may be of excellent quality and design, there’s always the small, but real, possibility that a link could become dislodged and ruin your set.

FIX IT: It may not sound like the most glam option, but for nightmare scenarios like this, I keep a pair of mini pliers in my styling box. I admit, having a pair of pliers on standby isn’t the most obvious bridal accessory, so entrust them to one of your ‘maids or a family member or stash them in your dressing room. Should the worst happen, you can quickly save your jewels.

DISASTER STRIKES: You step into your dream lehenga, lean over slightly to be zipped up, and pop! Your zip breaks, just moments before the ceremony. Cue panic, tears and anger.

FIX IT: After potentially shelling out thousands for the couture outfit of your dreams, the last thing you’d expect is the zip to snap. But bridal outfits, with all their embroidery, details and layers upon layers of fabric, can be extremely heavy with the waistband and the zip bearing the brunt of the weight. Prevention is better than cure. On your wedding eve, swab a Q-tip in a tin of Vaseline and run it alongside the zip. Doing this will reduce friction on the zip’s teeth and ensure it seals smoothly, reducing the risk of it catching or becoming stuck. If the zip is completely bust (we know, it doesn’t bear thinking about!) keep a sewing kit with thread in the same colour as your outfit on standby. I’m sure you’ll be able to find someone in your bridal party who can hand stitch you into your outfit.
