The average Scottish couple spends £1,123* on their wedding photographer. Here are 10 reasons why it’s an investment worth making.
1 They capture every moment
You know the phrase ‘time flies when you’re having fun’? Well, there’s no day this applies to more than your wedding. Chances are you will miss a few special moments, and that’s where your professional photographer can fill in the blanks. “They will capture not only the big moments, but also the small, behind the-scenes moments that make your day unique,” says photographer Rhiannon Neale. “From smiles and laughs between guests, to children playing, every tiny detail you spent months planning is documented.”
Some photographers even come with a second shooter (that is, another photographer), which allows them to get double the amount of coverage. Regardless of whether they fly solo or as a duo, their primary focus on the day is to document your wedding – which won’t be the case if you ask a guest to take snaps instead – allowing you to relax. “You can enjoy your day knowing, with confidence, they will capture the best moments as they happen,” adds photographer Helenor Farquharson.
2 They’ve done it all before
Unlike an amateur, a professional has photographed several weddings and brings their well-honed expertise to your big day. “You get the benefit of someone who has been part of hundreds of weddings,” explains Alastair from Alastair Burn-Murdoch Photography. “That does not mean that each wedding is not special – each certainly is – but they can keep a cool head and ensure you get the best results.” From tracking down errant family members for group shots to dealing with an unexpected downpour, they know the drill and will stay calm. “Professional photographers have seen it all in the wedding world, and can use their knowledge and expertise to have things running smoothly,” agrees photographer Paul Saunders.
