A Wind of Change

Conceptualising a cover shoot with Amyra Dastur for our New Year special was as easy as pie.

You look at her and the first word that pops into your head – SERENE. And then there are the chills of the winter wind flowing around you, and you think, who else can bring to life, Disney Princess Elsa (from Frozen) as beautifully as Amyra? With a perfect amalgamation of pristine beauty, striking innocence and a refreshing confidence in her demeanour, she does complete justice to our imagination of a young and effervescent Snow Queen, on our cover.

Gracing our cover for the second time, she expresses, “It is one of my favourite magazines and both times were grand and fun for me. I love shooting with Hitesh, he makes my job easier.” There is a remarkable difference in Amyra, between then and now. While the actor was a ‘breath of fresh air’ in her first shoot with WA, (right after the movie ‘Issaq’ introduced her as a versatile actor), she now knows when to turn into an irrepressible wind. “When I started at 16, I was quite naive and shy. I did not let my true personality shine through, out of fear of what people might think and how I would be judged for it. Over time, the shyness has slipped out. I've learned to care less about what people think and focus on how I feel about myself. I have learnt to face rejection with a smile and stay strong when things do not always work out the way I want. You can say, I grew a layer of thick skin and that is what has kept me happy and working to this day,” the actor revealed. The transition to a diamond, however, has not ripped off her simplicity. She continues to hold on to her real self, ‘an amiable actor, who does not allow the sparkle of the glamour industry to outshine her personality.’
