SUNDAY & MARAE PRESENTER

It’s very rare for me to be away from my family at Christmastime, but four years ago, our friends in Germany and Ireland invited us to visit. We arrived in Leipzig the week before the big day and it was snowing – the kind of Christmas you see in picture books!

We stayed in a tiny little remote village in the Erzgebirge region, which is famous for its incense burners. It was wonderful discovering Christmas in another country, trying out holiday delicacies like delicious eierlikör (eggnog) and glühwein (mulled wine), as well as their tradition of kaffee und kuchen (coffee and cake). They really know how to do the most gorgeous, rustic, earthy Christmas in Germany. Everyone seems to be in agreement that you have particular window dressings – it was like walking into a magazine.
