My man Robert nearly died three times before shedding 19st…
By Amanda Wells, 48, from Lincoln
My husband Robert, 49, has always had a big, healthy appetite for food.
Large portions, often going back for seconds.
Yet he was always active, too.
And he had a busy job as a social care manager, so managed to burn off those extra calories.
But in 2009, he took over a new area at work, and started spending a lot more time on the road.
He’d gorge on pies, pasties, and fish and chips while out and about, and his once trim, 6ft frame had got fatter and fatter.
At home, he’d enjoy huge portions of pasta and Chinese takeaways, and stopped exercising in favour of lounging around on the sofa.
Pound by pound, the weight crept on.
Before we knew it, he had a 62in waist, weighed a hefty 33st, and was morbidly obese.
He sweated so much he had to change his 6XL sized shirts twice a day to avoid becoming smelly. And trips to the cinema were impossible as he was too big for the seats.
Occasionally, I worried about the impact of his size on his health. But he was always so cheery, his weight never seemed to bother him, so I didn’t mention it.
