“Protein helps to fill you up and keeps you satisfied for longer, which curbs cravings so you’re less likely to want to snack or overeat,” says nutritionist Kim Pearson. “Studies show that eating protein increases your body’s concentration of leptin, a hormone that reduces appetite, so you feel full faster and naturally eat less. But that’s not all – further research suggests that protein also decreases your levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin better than carbohydrates and fats do, which keeps hunger at bay for even longer.”
