How He’s Chasing A Cure For Rheumatic Heart Disease

Fiji holds a special place in heart of rugby sevens star DJ Forbes. Not only has he relished playing against the incredibly talented Fijian sevens team, but he and wife Lisa got married there 10 years ago.

“Well, initially it was a love/ hate relationship between me and Fiji,” he laughs. “There were a lot of Fijians who loved to hate me when I was playing against them.

“But they are such a proud Sevens nation, they love seeing anyone from the sevens family in their country. My wife and I try to get back there at least every second year.”

DJ and Lisa are the doting parents of Titus (9) and Sarai (6), and it was with them in mind that the sports star (36), who retired from playing last year, took the opportunity to work with Cure Kids Fiji, raising money for lifesaving health programmes.

“I’ve got two young kids,” he says. “I’m all for these organisations raising funds for all aspects of health and research. I thought it was a great way for me to give back to Fiji after all these years.”
