Coronation Street Star Beverley Callard and Her Husband Jon Mcewan Open Up About Triumphing Over Adversity

Her on-screen persona may think nothing of squeezing herself into a tight-fitting mini skirt and low-cut top but Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard couldn’t be more different.

Despite having played brash Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald for 30 years, it’s only recently that Bev has found her fearlessness.

“I’m the most confident I’ve been in years. For the first time in a long time, I don’t care what people think about me,” Bev (62) says as she confidently poses for the camera.

And while Bev admits she was “dubious” about turning 60, she has more energy than ever – and is learning to ride a motorbike! “I’m a bit mad like that,” she giggles as she cuddles up to husband Jon McEwan (53).

Bev and Jon have been together for 17 years and tied the knot in 2010 in a starstudded ceremony. It’s thanks to Jon’s unwavering support that Bev has been able to battle clinical depression and come through her 2009 breakdown, which saw her admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

Here, Bev – who is mum to Rebecca and Joshua from a previous relationship – and photography and recording studio owner Jon, who is dad to Ben, Jonathan and Danielle, open up about the secret to their happy marriage, the battles they’ve overcome and why they’re planning to renew their wedding vows.

Bev, you look great – and confident!

I was dubious about turning 60, but it has brought with it a feeling of contentedness. I’m the most confident I’ve been in years. For the first time in a long time, I don’t care what people think. I’m living my life for me and I’m having a great time.
