For her new rom-com Marry Me, Jennifer Lopez didn’t need to do a lot of research – well, any at all, to tell the truth – to find out what it’s like to be a global superstar living out her worst nightmare in front of the entire world. The 52-year-old actress has had that experience time and time again.
Living through three divorces, two broken engagements and a string of other break-ups has seen the singer/actress command more magazine headlines than your average Hollywood star. So, when she picked up the script for Marry Me, currently screening in New Zealand cinemas, it was almost like it had been inspired by her own life.
“I had to keep reminding myself, ‘You know what it’s like to be on stage, in front of an arena full of people and something embarrassing happens,’” says J.Lo candidly. “What does it feel like when it all falls apart and you go home and you’re on the TV and they’re making fun of you? How does that feel? You know what? You’ve cried in a puddle on the floor too. That’s what it feels like.”
Of course, in Marry Me things don’t quite happen to her character Kat Valdez the way they panned out for J.Lo.
