Megan Alatini is a born entertainer who loves to be centre stage. But the TrueBliss singer’s latest appearance sees her in the wings as she takes the role of proud supporter to her husband and childhood sweetheart, former All Black Pita Alatini – and she loves it.
“Yes, it’s usually me that gravitates to the spotlight,” the one-time NZ Idol judge laughs. “But this time it’s Pete and I’m chuffed for him.”
Pita and Megan, both 44, feature in Three’s Match Fit, a series that sees Sir Graham Henry and Buck Shelford put a group of former All Blacks through their paces to get back on the field for a game.
The show is as much about men’s mental health as it is about getting back in shape, and the parents of Tonica, 25, Tiara, 17, and Trey, 15, are movingly honest about the pressure that came with Pita wearing the All Black jersey, as well as the strain the family was put under when he was dropped from the team in 2003.
