Roasts For A Fiver

Chinese-style pork belly

Serves: 2

A new twist on classic roast pork with our zingy Asian-style sauce – a real show-off moment!

You will need:

✽ 1tsp salt

✽ 1tsp 5-spice rub

✽ 1tsp black pepper

✽ 2tsp olive oil

✽ 300g piece belly pork from the counter (ask your butcher to score the rind)

✽ 25ml soy sauce

✽ 100ml white wine

✽ 1 red chilli, seeds removed and sliced

✽ ½ bunch of spring onions, cut into chunks

✽ ½ pack of coriander, just the stalks (reserve leaves for sauce)

How to do it:

1 Heat the oven to its highest setting. Mix the salt, 5-spice and pepper with the oil and rub over the pork belly. Put on a rack set over a roasting tray and roast for 20 mins, until starting to crackle all over.

2 Turn the oven down to 150C/Gas 2. Pour away any fat, add the remaining ingredients to the roasting pan and cook for 50 mins until cooked through.

3 Remove the pork, chilli, onion and coriander stalks from the pan. Add the chopped coriander leaves to the pan juices, stir and then serve as a sauce with the pork.

Brazil nut roast

Your veggie friends will go nuts for this – full of flavour and healthy, too.

You will need:

✽ 200g Brazil nuts, chopped

✽ 30g butter

✽ 1 onion, finely chopped

✽ 2 carrots, finely chopped

✽ 1 stick celery, finely chopped

✽ 1 green chilli, deseeded and chopped
