The Spanish DREAM
Less touristy than its big city rival Barcelona, Madrid is the place to come for a seriously authentic Spanish experience. You’ll find Michelin-starred restaurants alongside brilliant cheap eateries, rooftop city vistas, stunning parks and some of the best galleries the country has to offer, including Museo Reina Sofia, which houses Picasso’s Guernica and delights from Dalí and Miró.

Artistic hotspots

As well as the Museo Reina Sofia and its classic exhibitions, Madrid is also host to a few more intimate artistic spaces including the home of artist Joaquín Sorolla. A master of capturing blissful summer days, his house features many of his most beautiful works as well as antique furniture, paintbrushes and workspace as well as a tranquil garden. If Sorolla’s work inspires a countryside getaway, the delightful town of Chinchón makes a wonderful day trip. Take bus number 337 from Conde Casal in Madrid and cash to pay for your ticket on board, it’s five euros each way and the journey takes around 45 minutes.
