Wonderful winter WILDLIFE

With Christmas upon us, it’s always tempting to curl up with a book by a roaring fire. But for hardy nature lovers, there’s a world of winter wildlife waiting to be explored. From migratory birds to towering pine forests, British nature is full of life in the coldest months, and here are a few of the best spots to find it.

Starlings on the South Coast

Swooping and swirling through the sky at dusk, starling murmurations are one of Britain’s most breathtaking sights. Every winter, our resident starlings are joined by thousands from Northern Europe, who come here in the chillier months. The formations are spotted across the UK, from Dungeness to Dumfries, but perhaps the most dramatic display is in Brighton, where the birds perform this dance over the silhouette of the old West Pier (pictured). From October to March, take a sunset pew on the beach and marvel at them. Brighton is a great winter getaway. Why not stay at The Nest, an apartment with balcony views over the rooftops and out to sea?
