She was put off them after the arrival of baby number two, who couldn’t stand his carseat. “After flying on my own to London and back twice with my eldest as a baby, I thought I could handle anything. But car trips with Hugo were hell. He would scream no matter how far the distance, so from then on we stuck with holiday destinations we could fly to. Expensive but much less stressful!” Nowadays, car trips are doable with audiobooks, snacks and plenty of stops. “A stash of lollies can be very helpful when the backseat passengers start getting restless.”
