Skoda to add a new, locally developed model to their line up in india in the important compact suv segment

HOMELAND OF THE CLEVER

"WE OVER-ENGINEER CARS, which leads them to a price point that you find difficult to realise in the market. We're very ambitious with our pricing.

They correlate with the car you get and the value for money. So it's lessons learned; on the other hand, with our 2.0 program, we're already north of 70% of the localisation in India. We need to increase that number.

Going forward, I want to be fully focused on what's available in India to be cost-competitive with the manufacturers," said Skoda's CEO, Mr. Klaus Zellmer, while talking about the brand's current plans for the Indian market.

Continuing further, he spoke about the sub-4-meter car that Skoda is preparing to launch in India at the beginning of next year. With the sub-4meter, they are targeting to achieve a 4% segment share with 75% localisation.

"The sub-4 meter for us is an excellent opportunity because we're offering something for the biggest part of the segment. In this very competitive environment, I think we have pulled a couple of knobs. Over 70% of what's been done to the sub-4-metre compact SUV is, by our 200 engineers in India; we love that".

THE E-MPV THAT DARES TO DREAM BIG

The MPV market, dominated for aeons by Toyota's Innova, has always felt like a rather predictable place. It's the type of vehicle you buy not out of passion but practicality-like a pair of orthopaedic shoes.

IMPRACTICAL YET IRRESISTIBLE

Exactly ten years ago, I took my first international trip. It was to Bahrain, a country of endless desert and skyscrapers, where my aunt and uncle lived. Among their friends and neighbours, one particular gentleman, upon learning I was a budding petrolhead, took an entire day off work to take me around the city’s showrooms to see some “normal” Middle East traffic.
