Drive Par Excellence

The Lamborghini brand is synonymous with performance. This year it celebrates its 60th anniversary. What better way to celebrate the anniversary than to drive their iconic cars? We were invited to drive those at the home of Lamborghini in Sant'Agata

Urus S

We landed in Bologna, the capital of performance for the automobile industry. Within a hundred square kilometres there are three top performance brands in the world: Lamborghini in Sant'Agata, Ferrari in Maranello, and Ducati in the heart of Bologna.

There were six of us and Lamborghini had lined up six cars for us to drive: two Urus S, two Urus Performante, and two Huracan Tecnica. It worked out just perfectly for me as my first car to start the celebratory drive was the Urus S, the luxurious of the three cars we were going to drive.

At the front, the new bumper design adopts refined lines and incorporates a new matte black painted stainless steel skid-plate, which are complemented by black lines of the front grille. The carbon-fibre bonnet with carbon-fibre air-vents gives the SUV a supercar look. Its coupélike roof-line and 22-inch wheels complete the supercar when seen from the side. The twin-pipe exhaust in brushed stainless steel with matte-finish lower rear completes the supercar look.

The black leather trim with bi-colour interior is of the highest quality and luxurious when you get into this big SUV.

The Urus is powered by a V8 biturbo twin-scroll turbo-charged engine pushing out 666 hp at 6,000 rpm and a hefty 850 Nm of torque from 2,300 rpm. The powerplant is mated to an eight-speed auto 'box.

The suspension set-up comprises multilink at the front and rear, the stopping power is provided by carbon ceramic front and rear with 10-piston aluminium monobloc calipers at the front and cast iron single piston floating caliper at the rear. To improve the agility and the turning circle, the Urus is equipped with rear-wheel steering.
