LOST CITY FOUND IN MEXICO JUNGLE

USING a high-tech laser device that creates 3-D area maps from the air, scientists have discovered a lost, nearly 2,000-year-old Mayan city complete with pyramids, plazas and even a reservoir hidden deep in the jaguar- and monkeyinfested Mexican jungles.

The city, Valeriana, and its surrounding settlements were so totally swallowed up by the thick forests in the southeastern state of Campeche, even people living in nearby villages were unaware of its existence.

Anthropologist Luke AuldThomas from Northern Arizona University notes his team “didn’t just find rural areas and smaller settlements.

“We also found a large city with pyramids right next to the area’s only highway, near a town where people have been actively farming among the ruins for years.
