After getting run over by a 7-ton snowplow at his winter retreat, Jeremy Renner lands in the ICU

The image was startling. On Jan. 3, Jeremy Renner shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed with blood streaking the side of his face, swollen eyelids and an oxygen tube in his nose. “Thank you all for your kind words. I’m too messed up now to type,” he wrote alongside the Instagram snap. But I send love to you all.”

He’s lucky to be alive. Two days earlier, the Hurt Locker star was run over by a massive snow plow weighing more than 14,000 pounds at his Nevada home near Lake Tahoe. During a Jan. 3 press conference, local authorities said Jeremy had successfully used the PistenBully to dig out one of his cars a relative had been driving that had gotten stuck in several feet of snow from a New Year’s Eve storm when the horrifying accident occurred.

“Mr. Renner got out of his PistenBully to speak with his family member,” said Sheriff Darin Balaam of Washoe County. At this point, it is observed that the PistenBully started to roll.” In an effort to stop the plow, Jeremy tried to climb back inside to the driver’s seat and was hit by the machine. According to a spokesperson,
