AS CATASTROPHIC hurricanes Helene and Milton ravaged the Southeastern U.S., greedy merchants selfishly made sleazy scores milking the needy by heartlessly hiking prices on everything from gas to hotels to airplane tickets out of town, a shocking National ENQUIRER investigation reveals.

After hundreds of calls about ruthless price-gouging in hard-hit Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, officials have launched dozens of probes into the illegal price hikes.

In one of many cases, as hundreds of thousands of residents along Florida's Gulf Coast fled Milton's destructive landfall, a hotel in Brunswick, Ga., started charging a whopping $617 a night for a room, almost $500 more than the usual rate.
