My Mum, Your Dad has just returned to our screens for a second series, giving another set of single parents the chance to find romance. And for anyone wondering whether the ITV show, hosted by Davina McCall, can lead to true love, Roger Hawes and Janey Smith are living proof that it can as they're undoubtedly the success story of season one.
The couple couldn't believe their luck when they swapped their everyday lives to give reality TV a go last year - finding each other in the process. Postman Roger, 60, was nominated for the show by his daughter, Jess, who was hoping to get her dad back on the dating scene after the death of his wife, Joanne, 18 months before. While long-time single mum Janey, 48, was put forward by her son, Will, in the hopes of finding a "best friend" after years of being unlucky in love.
And now, one year on, Roger and Janey are as smitten as ever as they update new during an exclusive chat. The couple are living between their Derbyshire and West Sussex homes and admit they have barely been apart since leaving the show.
Here, Roger and Janey tell us about family life, divulge their wedding plans and give their top tips for the new batch of My Mum, Your Dad contestants...
Hi, Roger and Janey! What has life been like since the show aired?
Janey: It's been good, we're really good and the majority of life is very normal we go walking together a lot! I think we have a nice balance and we do everything together, which is really helpful because neither of us is used to TV or anything like that. We've been able to hold each other's hands and I feel lucky. I think it would be scarier if we came out of a TV show single.
Roger: Yeah, we're that bit older so we have combined life experience and we can talk to each other about any concerns.
