She may still be mourning the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, but The Countess of Wessex did her late mother-in-law proud last week as she represented the royal family on her solo trips to Botswana and Malawi.
Sophie was visiting the African countries to see the impact of the work undertaken by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. The aim of the Trust, which was set up in 2012 and which the Countess was Vice-Patron of until 2020, was to end avoidable blindness across the Commonwealth and beyond. However, the last time Sophie was able to visit Malawi to see how the work had been progressing was in 2017.
There were smiles all round as the 57-year-old, who is also a global ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, looked thrilled to be back on African soil.
