She said, "Aunty, look at that cloud. Does it not look like a dog?" Anjali wanted a pet. She eagerly asked for one from her aunt.
"Let me think about it." her aunt replied. Anjali was not satisfied with the response. So she went to her mother and repeated the question.
"Mommy, can I have a pet?"
"A pet?" exclaimed her mother. "Why do you want a pet?"
"I don't know. I just want one." Anjali responded.
"I will think about it," her mom replied.
She was a bit sad but it still gave her some hope. One week passed by, but Anjali kept on asking for a pet. "Mommy, I really want a pet."
"All right, let's say if I gave you permission, what pet do you want?" her mother asked.
"Really, thank you so much!" Anjali started jumping and running around the living room.
"Wait, I did not say yes," her mother reminded.
"I know Mommy," Anjali paused as she was out of breath.
"Well, Mommy, maybe I want a monkey!" Anjali suggested.
"What? A monkey!" her aunt exclaimed. "They need space, trees to climb and they live in a group."
"Mommy, I forgot about all this. I can't have a monkey. It will never be happy with us. Correct, Aunty?"
"Yes, my dear," replied her aunt.
"I want a bird. No, I think I want a fish. Wait, should I get a rabbit? No, a horse would be magical! Perhaps, a turtle? A cute little turtle would be perfect!"
Anjali was out of breath. She was very excited about the idea that she hurried to read about the birds and all the other animals she wanted.
She searched different books and read about animals. Her aunt and mother smiled at each other and decided to give Anjali some time to research.
