Apple Logic Pro for iPad - £4.99/$4.99 per month iPAD
Computer Music|August 2023
Apple has finally brought its flagship DAW to the iPad domain. Is this the next logical progression for the computer-based musician?
Apple Logic Pro for iPad - £4.99/$4.99 per month iPAD

There’s been a rumbling conversation going on for many years now, speculating when Apple might port Logic Pro X to its iOS platform. Spurred on by the superbly capable GarageBand (which has been readily available for years) Logic-Pro-X-types have had to make do with Logic Remote, a semi-solution, mirroring Logic’s operations on your iPhone or iPad, as long as you have your Mac within networking distance of your device.

Now it’s finally arrived, but Logic Pro for iPad downloads with caveats; firstly, it’s for iPad only. Unlike GarageBand, you won’t be able to run Logic on your iPhone, although anyone who’s tried running GarageBand on their phone will probably sigh with relief – some kind of microscope is a prerequisite for navigating the smaller screen. You’ll also need the right sort of iPad, sporting an A12 processor or better. That means using any of Apple’s current crop of iPads, including the iPad mini, and a fair few iPads from the last couple of years. You’ll also need to be up to date with iOS 16.4 or later.

Logic is downloaded from the App Store, with the basic app size being a mere 675.3MB. Upon installation, you can choose which of the numerous instrument and loop libraries you might like to download. There are some gems here, from artists and producers, and it’s tempting to hit the ‘Download All’ button. Even so, all of the additional content will only absorb around 15GB of your iPad’s storage capacity.
