Blancpain loves the ocean, that much is certain. If you look at their watch collection, it is the Fifty Fathoms dive watch that represents the brand, and this iconic model was created in the 1950s based on the personal experiences of their then-CEO and avid diver, Jean-Jacques Fiechter. Even their current CEO Marc Hayek has stated numerous times in interviews how he adores the sea. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that a lot of Blancpain's efforts outside watchmaking have something to do with the world's ocean including the many expeditions that they sponsor, their partnership with the dive association PADI and for the purpose of this story, their collaboration with Oceanographic Magazine for the annual Ocean Photographer of the Year awards.
