Keep on top of temperatures and plant health, says Ruth

KEEPING the greenhouse running well and the plants inside it healthy is a major consideration throughout the summer.

The main challenges are keeping the temperature at safe levels and making sure plants stay hydrated and safe from the perils of sun scorch and pests through the hottest months.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to cover the glass with opaque shading paint that can be easily washed off in autumn. Alternatively, drape netting or fleece over the structure. Good airflow and cool water also help lower the temperature and keep plants healthy.
