The Yoga Shastra talks about keeping a balanced state of mind. This would mean that there is no place for action and reaction. We believe that a person should think, understand, and then respond at the right time and in the proper manner. That manner should not be one of anger or rage (Krodha). It should always be one of a balanced and compassionate mind.
This approach is in contrast to modern psychology. The modern trend advocates to say immediately what comes to your mind. Do not keep anything in your mind, and get rid of all the tension. They will even offer you a pillow if you are angry, to punch it in order to get rid of the anger inside you and speak out what is pent up inside. So you speak in a fit of anger but when the mind becomes calm, then you wonder why you said all that. It was not necessary because now you will have to bear the consequences.
