MY IDEAL GIFT to receive is not something particularly extravagant. I like a book and don’t mind if it’s a paperback novel. It doesn’t need to be a heavyweight design or art tome that I will look at once and then add to the groaning pile and never open again. And it most certainly should never be a cookbook because I simply have no need of them. People who know me will say I read so many books they wouldn’t know what to buy. Well, one of my closest friends knows exactly how to tackle that issue. She goes to the bookshop where I buy most of my books and asks them to recommend something based on my reading tastes and what I have already bought from them. She never fails in her book choices that way.
