When the foundation stone of the iconic Gateway of India was laid in 1911, little must have the architect George Wittet fathomed its metaphorical relevance in 2023. That evening, as the night sky wore a tapestry of midnight hues, the ground below was decked in a massive traditional rangoli, although calling it an ‘installation’ would do it better justice. And in between the realm of earth and skies, mortals and the celestials, against the iconic Gateway of India, history came full circle. It was the same Gateway of India that witnessed the Dior Fall 2023 show, conceived with Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director, Dior Women’s Collections, as inspiration to celebrate the collaboration between the brand and Chanakya School of Craft. And everything that both hold close to their causes.
