With its breezy layout, inviting outdoor spaces, and mix of European and Australian-inspired elements, this semi-terraced house holds its own in the coveted outskirts of Orchard Road. Mosh Interior founder Shermaine Ong oversaw the renovation of the 30-year-old property, describing the result as “a little bit like a colonial black-and-white house and a little bit like a modern Australian home”.
The rather extensive renovation required most of the existing interiors to be torn down, and the altered to suit the young couple and their newborn. The owners, originally based in Australia, approached Mosh Interior to evoke “a European feel and a laid-back, homely design” inspired by their previous dwelling.
The doors and windows were extended to let in additional light and views of the surrounding gardens, and window shutters inspired by classic European architecture were worked into the design, along with a pared-back palette that enhances the bright and airy interiors.
Often an afterthought, the outdoors of this property were instead designed with great care. The spacious garden fronting the house was brought to life by the husband himself, who turned out to be “quite the handyman”. On the other side of the home, the backyard houses a swimming pool next to a barbecue and breakfast spot, fitted with outdoor furniture from Australian brand King Living. The inclusion of this area was of particular importance to the owners, their love of relaxed barbecues harking back to their roots Down Under.
