For the launch of his new boutique in Bengaluru, couturier Tarun Tahiliani revealed his characteristic love for grandeur and opulence... Spread over 4,500 square feet in a beautiful heritage building, this special launch was an ode to Tarun’s deep love for Indian craftsmanship and performance. And the garments were a treat to the eye with his perfected art of draping and delicate use of embroidery.
In a special conversation with Brides Today, Tarun shared his love for drapes, neutral tones, and more...
Nandini Bhalla: Tell us about your stunning new boutique in Bengaluru. What inspired you to launch it? Tarun Tahiliani: “Bengaluru, as a city, is buzzing with people in and out from across the world and neighbouring towns who want to shop for weddingwear. Yet, surprisingly, there are hardly any designer stores here with a truly strong retail presence. We already have boutiques in Delhi and Mumbai, and after speaking with our strategy partners, we decided to launch in this important market before expanding abroad. We found that people here have extremely sophisticated taste; it’s more understated, and more focused on textiles than embroidery. People, here, wear beautiful things.”
NB: Speaking of beauty, the new store is spectacular... TT: “I found this store entirely by chance—and in the first 45 minutes of location hunting! I had flown in from Dubai at 2:30 a.m. and had specially requested to be shown around at 7:00 a.m.. We arrived there, and it wasn’t central like my other boutiques. And it was an absolute ruin...I could barely see the patterns of the floor. But it was so stunning!
