W henever someone asks Louise LovellBrown
what she does, she smiles and replies: “I’m in the business of selling dreams”.
Indeed, Louise’s family newsagency in Shepparton, Victoria, has sold a whopping 55 first division winning lottery tickets since the game of chance was introduced more than five decades ago.
Louise co-owns the business with her brother Gary. Known as the ‘Lucky Lovells’, the siblings are renowned for their loyal lotto following.
The siblings grew up behind the counter of their parents’ Melbourne newsagency, and recall the excitement in the store when TattsLotto launched in June 1972.
“I remember Dad painted the shopfront advertising TattsLotto and someone walked into the shop and called him ‘Mr TattsLotto,’ which we found funny,” Louise, 59, says.
“We have a photo of mum standing out the front of the shop with the lady they sold their first winning ticket to in 1973 or 1974. The lady won almost $250,000, which was like millions back then.”
