From the outside, Mary Ann and Bob Broberg and their daughters Jan, Karen and Susan appeared to be a normal, happy family. But their reality couldn’t have been further from the truth.

Their seemingly idyllic life was shattered when eldest daughter Jan was kidnapped multiple times by charismatic and obsessive family ‘friend’, Robert ‘B’ Berchtold, in the 1970s.

Having already been the subject of the 2017 Netflix documentary Abducted in Plain Sight, Jan's story is again being told in the new TV drama A Friend of the Family.

Screening in Australia on 7Plus, the series stars The White Lotus actor Jake Lacy, Colin Hanks and Oscar winner Anna Paquin.

Jan serves as a producer on the series, and also appears in an acting role as a therapist. She hopes her story will be a warning to other families.
