CONNOR TO THE RESCUE

It started as a cough, but very quickly, Lyndall Heath was choking. Barely able to breathe, she then started vomiting into the kitchen sink.

As a single parent, only Lyndall's son Connor, then six, was with her - but he knew exactly what to do.

"We'd practised for an emergency before, so I found her phone and I called triple zero," Connor, now seven, tells New Idea.

Calmly, he gave the person on the end of the line their address and explained that his mum was choking on some salad.

"He was so mature," Lyndall says proudly. "I was in a fair bit of pain, and I started coughing up blood."

Despite feeling scared, Connor was able to unlock the front door and remained on the triple zero call for the 14 minutes it took for an ambulance to come.

"I told them I have sensitive ears so I asked if they could turn down their sirens," Connor explains.

At the hospital, Lyndall was diagnosed with eosinophilic oesophagitis, a narrowing oesophagus. With medication there should be no more choking scares.
