MEET THE FEMALE SHEEP SHEARERS TEACHING MEN NEW TRICKS

Sigourney Williams was never interested in an office job.

The 23-year-old from Serviceton, VIC, enjoyed physical challenges and being outdoors. But she’d never considered a career as a sheep shearer until two years ago.

“I didn’t grow up around shearers, so it wasn’t on my radar,” she tells New Idea. “Then my sister married a shearer and I watched what he did.”

It wasn’t long before Sigourney was convinced to get on the tools herself – and she’s never looked back.

“It’s hard, physical work but I love that it’s very visual,” she says. “The results are instant.”
