Richard Mille and McLaren's now eight-year collaboration has played out like the best of buddy action flicks, demonstrating their perfectly matched chemistry in precision engineering, cutting-edge design, performance and innovation. Their fourth instalment, the RM 65-01 Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph McLaren W1, marks the pinnacle of the brands' shared drive in more ways than one.
With the British carmaker's WI as inspiration, this super driving watch reimagines the supercar's aerodynamic lines and high-performance features for the wrist. The impetus to create Richard Mille's most complex automatic chronograph to date came when the watchmaking team, led by creative director Cécile Guenat, was granted exclusive access to the WI's first clay mock-ups in 2022. From its superb aero-cell architecture came RM 65-01 McLaren WI's distinct double-bezel design. The upper bezel alone went through a cliff-hanging number of eight prototypes and nine months of work.
