TAMWORTH stayed nine points clear at the top of the table as they look to close in on a return to the National League. Goals from Dan Creaney and Ben Acquaye ensured the Lambs got back to winning ways following Tuesday’s goalless draw at home to Boston United.

Home boss Andy Peaks was delighted with the performance ahead of Tuesday’s trip to second-placed Scunthorpe. “It was important we gained three points after the draw against Boston on Tuesday, especially as we go into the top-of-the table clash at Scunthorpe,” he said.

“All the players put in a good shift and perhaps we could have grabbed another couple of goals if we had been more clinical in the final third. I was pleased that Dan Creaney got back on the scoresheet but equally pleased with the quality of the defence, who looked very strong.”
