YORK ARE DOIN' IT THE ARD WAY!

YORK City's new boss Neal Ardley says he has been appointed to manage the club, not just coach the team.

Since buying the club in June, owners Matt and Julie-Anne Uggla have spent heavily on recruiting players and spoken openly of their ambition to reach the National League play-offs.

But a dismal run of three defeats and three draws from their opening six games left York in the relegation zone and cost rookie manager Mikey Morton his job.

Ardley is a very different beast. A former Premier League player with Wimbledon, the 51-year-old has over 500 games on his managerial CV and reached National League play-off finals with Solihull Moors and Notts County.

Prior to that, he won promotion to League One at AFC Wimbledon.

And it is exactly that sort of experience that Ardley says the owners desired after a stuttering start to their reign.

"The owners don't want a coach, they want a manager," said Ardley, who left Solihull by mutual consent following last season's disappointing 15th-place finish.

"They want experience.
