City Crime Branch officials have arrested 40-year-old constable Virendrasinh Padheriya for the gruesome murder of Priyanshu Jain, a second-year student of MICA. Padheriya, a Sarkhej Police Station officer since 2008, has a chequered past and was already under suspension due to his alleged involvement in a call centre scam. The fugitive officer, who had been on sick leave, was tracked down and apprehended in Sangrur, Punjab, on Wednesday afternoon. According to a senior Crime Branch official, Padheriya abandoned his Tata Harrier SUV in Ahmedabad and fled the city in a privately hired vehicle. "Through CCTV footage, we traced the SUV and linked it to him.
