Memnagar residents raise a stink over polluted lake

Lake has untreated sewage water, say residents; complaints to AMC, GPCB, CPCB have fallen on deaf ears

With the arrival of the monsoon season, concerns about waterborne diseases are on the rise. However, for residents of Memnagar, these fears are amplifi ed due to the inaction of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) regarding the polluted Memnagar Lake. Thousands of people are facing health hazards on account of the garbage and sewage water being released into the lake.

Citizens living near the lake have filed numerous complaints with the AMC, citing the lake’s contamination with sewage water. One resident recently tagged the AMC, the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in a tweet highlighting the issue.

The tweet reads: “Memnagar lake is again filled with sewage. The lake, which had dried up, is now filled with untreated sewage. #Ahmedabad @AMC_Complaints @ GPCB_Ahdcity @GPCB_HO @ CPCB_OFFICIAL”
