The Y chromosome is essential for determining a person's sex and might cause humanity to go extinct, says a report

Male people have one X chromosome and one little chromosome called Y, while female humans have two X chromosomes.

Approximately 900 genes in the X execute a wide range of jobs unrelated to sex. Y has a small number of genes (about 55), a large amount of non-coding DNA, and a crucial gene that initiates male development in the embryo.

According to researchers, during the course of evolution spanning 166 million years, the Y chromosome has lost between 900 and 55 active genes.
