The 84-year-old actor, who made his name in Open All Hours with Ronnie Barker, said the script for the seventh and final spin-off series was ready to go.
The sixth season, with Sir David as Granville, was shown in 2019.
Asked if the show would finally be finished, Sir David said: "That would be wonderful, but you'd have to get in touch with Mr BBC about that.
