KATE: MY CANCER CAME AS A HUGE SHOCK

DISPLAYING incredible bravery and fortitude, the Princess of Wales told the nation yesterday of the "huge shock" she felt after her cancer diagnosis.

In an unprecedented video message, Kate, 42, revealed she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy. She said: "I am well and getting stronger every day." Radiating poise and positivity, the Princess's highly emotional statement came after she underwent major abdominal surgery on January 16.

Speaking from a bench surrounded by daffodils and spring blossom, Kate, 42, explained the procedure she had at the London Clinic was successful.

However, post-operative tests revealed cancer had been present and it is understood the Princess started treatment in late February.

She said that with husband Prince William, 41, their focus is on the wellbeing of their children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Details of the cancer have not been disclosed, but Kensington Palace says it is confident Kate will make a full recovery.

The Princess was warm and composed as she delivered her two-minute message, filmed Windsor on Wednesday.

But her voice trembled slightly and she appeared close to tears on two occasions. Kate said the news came as a "huge shock" and that she needed time to process the information and consider the best interests of the couple's children.

A royal source said: "Every decision made has been to protect the three children." The decision to make the announcement yesterday is believed to have been with them in mind, as it coincided with the start of their school Easter holidays.
