Senior Whitehall sources claimed the Prime Minister was irritated he ignored Cabinet Secretary Simon Case's instructions to be neutral and avoid influencing the vote.
But Mr Streeting, who said he intends to vote against the assisted dying Bill when it is debated this month, ordered officials to review the costs of implementing any changes in the law.
Dismayed
Health department staff are also said to be dismayed by Mr Streeting's intervention.
