Tories backed to survive the election

MOST voters don't believe the Conservative Party will be "completely" wiped out at the general election despite a constant onslaught from Labour and Reform UK.

An exclusive poll for the Daily Express found more than half (55%) think Rishi Sunak's party is "too well established" to be decimated on July 4, compared with 33% who disagree.

More than half (52%) believe the Conservatives will survive the election, even if its representation in Parliament is "significantly" slashed.

Nearly a third (31%) expect the Tories not to survive, while 17% say they don't know.

Problem

Reform leader Nigel Farage is gunning to make his party the new "voice of the opposition" come election day.

But Lachlan Rurlander, consultant at Whitestone Insight research consultancy, which carried out the survey for us, said: "Despite a narrowing between the Conservatives and Reform from six to just two points, Nigel Farage and his party have some way to go before they are seen as a realistic alternative to form a Government, as opposed to a protest vote." The results of the poll of 2,014 adults, if translated into seats, would see Labour winning 492 seats (41% of votes), the Conservatives just 47 (19% of the vote), the Lib Dems 60 (11%) and Reform three (17%). This would give Labour a majority of 334 seats.
