Lammy on spy claims

'We have all the means available to deal with espionage

THE Foreign Secretary has insisted Britain has everything it needs to counter espionage threats from hostile countries, amid an explosive row over an alleged Chinese spy.

David Lammy's intervention came after it was revealed the suspected Beijing agent, known only as H6, became a close confidant of the Duke of York.

The businessman also met former Prime Ministers David Cameron and Theresa May, sparking questions about how far he had penetrated Britain's establishment.

Mr Lammy said it would be inappropriate to comment on any particular case, but insisted he raised the "serious issues of Chinese espionage" when he visited the country in October.

The Foreign Secretary added: "All matters are dealt with by our security services and by our courts if necessary. Under our national security laws we have all the means available to deal with those who commit espionage."
