THE temperature may be soaring this week but buying ice cream could definitely plunge you into a cold sweat.

Prices have soared over the past year, with vanilla own-brand products up 15% on average.

In a study for the Mirror, the cost of 900ml tubs in May last year were compared to last month at six supermarkets.

Tesco's vanilla flavour had the biggest hike, increasing 20% from £2.20 to £2.65, Stocklytics found.

Branded products were also analysed in Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons, Iceland, Co-op,
