GREGOR TOWNSEND vented his frustration after South Africa dodged a red card bullet and dealt a major blow to Scotland's World Cup hopes.

The day after England's Tom Curry was sent off for head-to-head contact against Argentina, Jesse Kriel got away scot-free with what looked an identical offence on Jack Dempsey in only the second minute.

Rather than being forced to play virtually the whole match a man short, as England were, the world champions kept 15 on the field and escaped to victory.

Head coach Townsend (right) said: "It did look like it was a head-on-head collision and I was expecting the TMO to come in to make the referee aware of that.

"Who knows (if it was a game changer). Last night a red card didn't help or change the game much in terms of Argentina's favour.
